What was it like to be a watchmaker for a day?
Very interesting! It was lots of fun to see how a watch is built and also to try to do some watchmaking on my own. The parts are very tiny and you really have to control your fingers. It’s pretty much like alpine skiing, the small details make the whole.
Tell us about your choice of watches.
For me it was two easy choices. The watches I chose tell a lot about who I am as a person. UTC Extreme: A tough sporty girl who loves challenges and to push limits and who chooses her own way to reach her goals. A bold watch that fits a girl who last year was the best in the world at what she does. Royal Steel Classic: Bling-bling is what characterizes me on the slopes. Since the day I started racing in the World Cup I’ve had beads on my goggles, it’s my signature. I like fashion and to wear this stylish and elegant watch on my arm will be the icing on the cake.
What does Sjöö Sandström mean to you?
My collaboration with Sjöö Sandström means a lot to me. In my sport the hundredths of a second make all the difference – so Sjöö Sandström and I truly have time as a common denominator.
Why is your personality and Sjöö Sandström a perfect match?
Sjöö Sandström is one of the strongest watch brands in the world, and I am one of the best skiers on the globe. Even if we work in two very different areas we have a lot in common, such as dedication, commitment, joy, perseverance, hard work, attention to details and extreme thoroughness – qualities you need to get where you want.
As reigning World Cup slalom champion, what are your expectations for this season?
The world championships in St. Moritz will be the highlight of the season. And of course I will work really hard to defend my slalom title.
As a strong independent woman, what is it that have made you so successful?
I am very dedicated, positive and driven. I choose my own way and believe in myself and what I do. And I love to compete. My motto is: See the opportunities!
Which one of your two Sjöö Sandström watches will we see you wearing at the podium this winter?
UTC Extreme, because it radiates self-confidence!
